Lila Choudry Bio

Hi, my name is Lila! I’m a sophomore at Trinity Preparatory School in Florida, where I serve as the Focus Department Editor for our school newspaper and Vice President of our literary magazine. I write poetry, short fiction, and journalistic pieces—each form giving me a different way to explore voice, structure, and tone. I’ve placed in both local and state writing competitions, and I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to publications I care about not just as a writer, but as an editor and designer. I enjoy the full process—from developing strong concepts to laying out pages to making sure each word earns its spot. I take pride in making things that feel purposeful and well-crafted.

I care deeply about written self-expression—about finding ways to name what usually goes unspoken, to capture the in-between. That’s what led me to create Fine, I Guess, a digital archive for teen-created writing, art, and media centered on the things we feel but rarely say aloud. I believe there’s power in the unfinished, in work that’s honest rather than polished, and I’m passionate about creating space for young voices to speak in their own rhythm—quietly, chaotically, however they need to—and to see themselves represented in ways that feel real.

My journalistic writing leans toward culture, trends, and human stories, while my creative writing often explores longing, memory, and transformation. I’m interested in the contrast between what people say and what they actually mean, and how language can be used to get closer to the truth—or further from it. I don’t like to overcomplicate things. I aim for clarity, even when I’m writing about something complex. And I’ve learned that the cleanest writing usually comes from the messiest first drafts.

Outside of writing, I spend most of my time reading, playing bass guitar, and watching more films than I probably should. I was born in North Carolina and raised under the southern sky, and that’s shaped how I see the world: a little warm, a little sharp, and always looking for what’s beneath the surface.

More than anything, I want to make work that resonates. I care about the details. I’m serious about growing as a writer, editor, and student, and I’m excited to keep learning—on the page and beyond it.

That's me!
